Back in late November I went to a meeting with Alexa at her school for her big History Day project. We've heard of this project from many 7th graders before us and knew that it was going to be quite intense. History Day is part of a Nation wide project for 6-8th graders. Alexa's middle school does it in 7th grade. This year's theme was "Conflict & Compromise". Alexa chose the bombing of Hiroshima. She spent all of December & January researching her topic in History and then all of February writing and editing her information in Language Arts. She worked at home watching documentaries, making her poster and putting all finishing touches on her project. And then finally she had to present to her teacher, one on one.

The coolest part of the project is that she came up with the topic by just scanning Netflix documentaries and then later found out that her great-grandpa Dick was actually THERE when the atomic bomb took off to Japan. She was so proud to share that he was a master sargent in the Air Force and that the atomic bomb took off on the runway he was in charge of while he was stationed in Tinian. So fun to have that personal connection to tie into her project and no doubt grandpa would be so proud of her. She nailed her presentation and scored an A!!
