Extra Special Olympics 2018

Our couples group + Jeff had their 2nd event at the end of February. The Budde's (Mike & Jolene) teamed up with Jeff and created the most amazing night of FUN.

Behold the Extra Special Olympics....

We got our invitation 1 week before the event to which we had to fill out 2 forms, which created a mad-libs of an invitation for each of us. Adam and I were told that we were representing Jamaica. We had to hand make a Jamaican flag and bring an appetizer that was from our country.

We worked super hard and fast during the week and made a flag out of fleece and recruited our friends Susan and Jay who travel to Jamaica often to hook us up with some Jamaican jewelry, a drum set and a Bob Marley t-shirt. And most importantly some authentic jerk seasoning for our jerk chicken appetizer.

We also purchased some rasta caps on Amazon to complete our outfits.

We were greeted by the other represented countries when we arrived.

Stacey & Bryson = Sweden

Tammy & Chuck = Ireland

Michelle & Craig = Poland

Jolene & Jeff = Germany

Mike (aka the Honorable Judge Gimpy) = Switzerland

We were also given gifts of t-shirts for the event, and specimen cups for random drug tests. They sure thought of everything.

We gathered around the kitchen and shared what we brought for apps from our country and sampled everything.

Then, we made our way outside for the official opening ceremony walk to take the kiddos to the Beissel house, just a block down the street...

We carried and waved our flags..

Before each event we took a shot representing the color of the event we did. They made awesome shot glasses out of ice.

And there was a beautiful heavy snowfall all night which made it even better...

Our first event was curling, but before we could begin we needed to clear the ice...

They had taken a balloon, filled it with water and froze it to create the perfect curling rock. They put it on a pie tin and voila...it sailed down the ice.

Th couples luge required us to pull our partner in a sled down the hill and then have them turn around and pull us back up the hill.

The ski jump required one partner to do the high jump over a ski and the other partner to jump as far as they could in the snow.

Not pictured was the biathlon. We had to run out into the woods, find the red crate with tin cans inside, carry the can to a bench where an ope can of beer was, drink the beer, run up to the garage, set the can down and run back down the hill and toss tennis balls at the can to try and knock it down. Each partner had to do this twice.

It got too windy and cold to do our final event, ice dancing. But, it was an absolute BLAST. We went back inside to warm up and eat more of our delicious appetizers.

For memory's sake. The following apps were brought..

Team Sweden = Swedish meatballs

Team Ireland = Irish soda bread

Team Jamaica = Jerk chicken

Team Germany = Brats & saurkraut

Team Switzerland = Swiss chocolate

Team Poland = Polish sausage & saurkraut

Team Jamaica and Team Germany tied for 1st (Gold) but Jamaica had more violations, so Adam and I came in second!!

Ranks:

Germany

Jamaica

Sweden

Poland

Ireland
